Security System Maintenance - Prevention is Better Than Cure

INTRUDER ALARM SYSTEM MAINTENANCE

It is important to ensure that your Intruder Alarm is maintained on a regular basis to guarantee that it will operate correctly at all times, unlike those that you regularly hear sounding as soon as there is a power cut.

If you are receiving a discount from your insurers for having an approved alarm fitted, they will expect the system to be maintained by an approved installer to ensure the alarm is fully operational.

If your alarm is Police Monitored it should be serviced every 6 months one of which may be carried out remotely.

Gemini Security Solutions take the maintenance of our alarms very seriously, with this in mind we offer 3 levels of maintenance Bronze, Silver & Gold each providing different levels of cover.

Where a suitable modem is installed within the system, we will carry out an interim inspection midway through your service period remotely via our Maintenance Software whether the system is Police Monitored or not.

In addition we will access the system remotely prior to the engineers on site visit to ensure that the engineer is pre warned of any possible problems that are highlighted and to make sure he has necessary components available for your alarm system.

CCTV MAINTENANCE

As the term implies, CCTV preventative maintenance involves regularly testing the functionality of CCTV surveillance equipment to reduce the probability of a malfunction or failure.

Maintaining systems regularly will ensure CCTV systems are working to their optimum performance and that images recorded and stored are fit for purpose, and are of evidence quality and could be used as admissible evidence for purposes of investigation or for use in courts of law.

Preventative maintenance is an essential part of ensuring continuous surveillance and helps to deter break-ins, theft and the overall security of the area(s) being monitored.

To avoid any lapses in surveillance monitoring, CCTV system maintenance is usually carried out whilst all devices are still in operation.

This regular inspection should be planned as part of the overall security system maintenance checklist requirements of the business or household.

It is also a good idea to organise the inspection date so that any spare parts that may be needed are readily available.

In summary, preventative maintenance increases confidence in the entire security system, and is often a written requirement as well as a condition of commercial building insurance.

The owners or operators of a CCTV system should normally be able to keep CCTV cameras free of everyday dust and obstructions, but any technical scheduled maintenance must be carried out by trained service engineers.

Gemini Security Solutions offer a totally flexible CCTV maintenance solution which ensures your CCTV system is kept in optimum condition.

Our Standard Service Care Package is based upon a 4 camera system and includes 2 service visits per year (one in the spring & one in the autumn), all cameras will be cleaned and adjusted as required.

Where additional cameras are installed these will be added to the service agreement at additional cost.

The maintenance contract is inclusive of standard emergency call out Monday to Friday 8.00 - 17.00 (Additional Options Available).

During the service visit our engineers will:

 • Verify that the number and type of cameras installed, as well as lenses, corresponds with records held by the Client.

• Act on any previous notifications or issues reported by the business.

• The camera checking component of the security system maintenance checklist should include comprehensive cleaning of the lenses and housings.

• Once the camera is properly cleaned, the engineer is required to monitor all automated and remote control functions and that all camera movement, as well as the area of the premises they view, are not obstructed.

Once the camera is shown to be working as it should, the next step is to check the audio and recording equipment.

• If there are any external cameras, ensure that any plants, trees or shrubbery do not impede the view, recording or any other function of the CCTV camera.

Most insurance companies will insist on this as a condition of the insurance, and the service will require the growth to be regularly cut back.

• Check that all cables are properly mounted, or supported by the correct conduit, and that the insulating plastic is showing no sign of wear and tear.

• Check that all indicator lights and pre-sets are functioning correctly.

• Verify that all warning labels and notifications are present and clearly visible. This also applies to a full connection check of all components in the CCTV circuits.

• Check that all fixtures and fittings that ensure that the CCTV itself is properly supported are in place. This examination should include looking for signs of physical damage and any form of chemical corrosion. Any damage should be repaired as soon as possible. Many business owners check that such repair work is possible within the terms of their maintenance contract.

Where the CCTV cameras are linked to the security and fire alarm system as such that the CCTV preventative checklist needs to ensure that the correct alarms are triggered.

Related to this test is ensuring that the ambient lighting does not affect the view from the cameras in the device.

The engineer is also required to check any log books or computer held data pertaining to the CCTV system and advise on any necessary updates relating to such data.
